What We Offer

Grassroots Logistics is a regional organization based in Nairobi and operating within East Africa, with the aim of facilitating and supporting projects aimed at empowering local communities to address conservation and poverty alleviation challenges. We also aim to support our sponsors and donors to fulfill their philanthropic, emotional and individual needs by contributing to ‘their own projects’ while ensuring that they are updated on ‘what their dollars’ have achieved.

In a sense, Grassroots Logistics therefore aims to encourage our sponsors and donors to visit the various project areas so that they can participate and have the experience rather than just donating to causes that they do not identify with. As such, we aim to work with projects that strengthen the mission and objectives of Grassroots Logistics.

Kent State University, Ohio helps to train Nyangala Cluster teachers, Tsavo

In order to help improve the standards of education in rural areas, we have forged links between the teaching staff of Nyangala Cluster of schools and Kent State University, Ohio. Each year since 2000, the teaching faculty from the university organizes and run Teachers’ Workshops aimed at improving local teachers effectiveness in the classrooms thereby raising the overall school performance.

Besides funding the workshops, Kent State University has also donated a significant amount of science equipment to all the five primary schools with a total of 1160 pupils. They also donated USD 1,500 towards the establishment of a teachers’ resource workshop within the Amy Nicholls Community Resource Centre.

So far, Kent State University has organized a total of seven teachers’ workshops. On average, 50 teachers have attended each workshop. Towards the end of 2006, they funded the travel and accommodation of two teachers from Nyangala area to attend an educational exchange programme in the USA. Both teachers said their hopes were for their students to get a university degree. “I really believe that education is everything.” said Marcelina Mwanjala, who teaches in Bungule village school.

Kent State University lectures which are part of the Distinguished Lecture Series have helped improved teaching standards in the area. Already, Stanley Kitanyi formerly the headteacher of Kiteghe has enrolled for a Bachelors degree in Education in Kenyatta University, Nairobi courtesy of this linkage.
